Shalom-Peace

English is a language newer than others, but this language of ours is very limited. When you hear the word Peace, basically the only thing that comes to mind is this passive picture, a life or place void of any trouble, free from internal or external strife.
I aim to introduce you to a much deeper meaning,
one that I hope you will carry with you throughout the rest of your life.
Here is what  brings this issue of Peace to the forefront for me. Those of you that are believers know that in
(Is 9:6), our Savior is called " The Prince of Peace".
This is the same Savior who when He entered the world, angels started singing,
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth Peace and goodwill towards men." (Luke 2:14).
This is also the same Savior , who when He was leaving this planet said,
"Peace I leave with you, my Peace I give unto you." ( John 14:22)
This is all wonderful, but this issue becomes confusing when we find our Savior in His own words telling us,
" Think not that I am come to send Peace on earth: I came not to send Peace , but a sword." (Matt 10:34)
Now how can the Prince of Peace. The Prince that supposedly frees us from " internal and external strife", not bring the Peace, but instead set us up with a sword? Contradiction? No, That is because this promise of Peace is not freedom from internal and external strife,
because we are promised to go through some things, to have some troubles in this life.
The Jews greet each other with Shalom, with Peace.
Are they wishing each other to be free from internal and external strife?
There are a number of verses that will address what we are about to learn, but I only want to deal with one.
(Ps 29:11) says, " The Lord will give strength unto His people: The Lord will bless His people with Peace." Friends, this Peace is a blessing for us.
When the Jews greet each other with Shalom they are blessing each other. What  this blessing?
Shalom is " May your life be filled with health, prosperity, success, and fulfillment."
The Prince of Peace is (1) the author of the Peace Treaty between you and God, and (2) He is the Prince of the completeness of life. That completeness  of life occurs when you are in the will of God. Only when your life is completely in the will of God, does it not matter to you whether you are a missionary in Uganda who owns and rides a two wheel bicycle or a church member in Beverly Hills with two Rolls Royce's. Only in the will of God can you have Peace, the Peace that passeth all understanding. Shalom.
