To Thine Own Self Be True
![]() This is a quote from William Shakespeare; Hamlet, Act 1 Scene 3.
Laertes, the son of Lord Chamberlain Polonius, gives his sister Ophelia some brotherly advice.
He warns Ophelia not to fall in love with Young Hamlet; she will only be hurt. Polonius tells his daughter Ophelia not to return Hamlet's affections for her since he fears Hamlet is only using her...
Polonius gives his daughter the famous quote:
"This above all: to thine own self be true...."
Today's Daily Fruit came to me while at work as various thoughts flashed through my mind, I thought back to the series I watched during the week on Nightline. In a nutshell it was about teens and homosexuality. The question was asked whether their lifestyle was a choice. A proclaimed "christian lesbian" stated that she was at peace with God once she was true to herself. This little catch phrase has become a victory song for Spiritual leaders, everyday people, and even Atheist, ever since it was penned by Shakespeare years ago. But what we have here is not a pearl of truth, but instead another example of worldly nonsense.
Today's tasty piece of fruit is 2 Corinthians 5:7 "( for we walk by Faith, not by sight)"
Whether you know it or not, it is possible to deceive yourself. I understand that you want to be honest and truthful to your deepest and inner feelings. This is to anyone who thinks they know what they feel, or think, or believe. Many people are trying to find themselves, I say that there is nothing wrong with that. Go ahead find out what makes up you, what's the real you. Find out what is your thoughts, your feelings, and your belief system, then when you are done you go to the Word of God and see if what you are measures up to what God wants you to be and says you should be, and when you find discrepancies between the two ( and you will), you will then have to decide if in fact " to thine own self be true." To you it may all make logical sense, but if to thine own self you are true, then you are at the level of self worship. This is why we are admonished to lean not to our own understanding, but instead we should in all our ways acknowledge him., so that He may direct our paths.
Walk by faith, not by what you see.
Walk by faith, not by what you feel.
Walk by faith, not by what you think, not by what you understand.
"to God, and God alone be true"
not "to thine own self-centeredness be true"
self-assertion
self-assumption
self-assurance
self-devotion
self-knowledge
( and the list goes on )
